Jail staff find woman dead days after arrest by PAPD

A suspect arrested Friday evening by Port Arthur Police died today, according to Sheriff’s Office officials.
Jefferson County Correctional Facility officers found the victim, identified as 31-year-old Leeann Navarro, unresponsive in her cell at 1:40 a.m. Monday.

Authorities said the medical staff “immediately began CPR to no avail.”
An autopsy has been ordered.
As per protocol, Sheriff’s Office officials said the Jail Commission and Texas Rangers have been notified.
Navarro’s family has also been notified.
Port Arthur Police booked Navarro into the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on theft charges at 6:40 p.m. Friday.
The Sheriff’s Office said she had two outstanding felony warrants from Jefferson and Harris Counties and was booked “after receiving medical clearance at a local hospital.”
