Port Neches-Groves has played 31 straight innings without giving up a run.

The Indians nearly played seven innings in Port Arthur without allowing a hit.

Khristian Curtis struck out 13 and allowed one hit Tuesday, as PNG blanked Memorial 7-0 in a District 21-5A battle.

PNG (12-11-1, 5-2 in 21-5A) has won five straight and not allowed a run since the sixth inning of a March 22 loss to Nederland. Memorial (5-9, 2-5) has lost five in a row.

The Indians totaled 10 hits. Curtis had the only double, but was one of five players each with two hits.

Ryan Sosa drove in two runs. He lined two hits, as did Blake Bost (three runs), Carson Roccaforte (two runs) and Austin Schaper (one run).

Miguel Samudio singled with two outs in the fourth for Memorial’s lone hit.

The Indians capped off the night with three runs in the seventh and took advantage of four Titans’ errors.

Memorial’s Jeremiah Fielder allowed three earned runs on seven hits in five innings, but struck out two. Josue Rodriguez struck out three, but allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits the rest of the way.

The rematch is set for Friday in Port Neches.

 

Nederland 14, Cleveland 4

In Nederland, the Bulldogs (13-7-2, 7-0 in 21-5A) scored 11 runs in the third inning and cruised to a 10-run victor over the Indians.

Omar Mascorro’s two-run single opened the big surge. Brock Holton and Wade Butler each singled in a run, Rene Cunningham hit a one-run double, Kamden Grant hit a one-run single and scored on a passed ball, Mascorro hit a sacrifice fly and Holton smacked a two-run double.

Holton and Mascorro each drove in three runs. Holton and Kamden Grant each had two hits.

Adam Roccaforte, Dylan Romero (two hits), Samuel Wille and Brian Davila also made the hit column for Nederland.

Noah Gregory struck out four and gave up two earned runs on four hits in four innings in earning the pitching win. Grant then held the Indians hitless and fanned one in the last two innings.

 

SOFTBALL

Nederland 1, Cleveland 0

At home, Nederland outhit Cleveland 9-1, but did not plate a run until two outs into the seventh inning.

Hannah Grumbles came through with a single to score Harlee Brown, and the Bulldogs picked up a district win. Brown led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Brittany Taylor.

Destini Trahan stole the show in the circle with 19 strikeouts and one hit allowed. At the plate, Alyssa Collazo and Grumbles each hammered two hits, and Lexi Eversole, Danielle Richardson and Allison Sorensen each also had one.

 

PNG 17, Memorial 1

In Port Neches, Phoebe Borne held the Titans without a hit despite giving up a first-inning run, and PNG (17-8, 6-4 in 21-5A) run-ruled Memorial in three innings.

Bayja Newby tripled and doubled, drove in a run, scored two of her own and stole two bases to lead the Indians. Kasidee Sartin tripled, drove in three runs, scored two and stole a base, Maylin Louvier was 2 for 2 with three RBI, two runs and two stolen bases, and Tyalor Dominguez tripled with two RBI, a run scored and stolen base.

 

Sabine Pass 17, Hull-Daisetta 0

In Daisetta, Jaizee Landry batted 4 for 4 with three RBI and three runs scored and was just a home run away from the cycle in a three-inning shutout of the Bobcats.

She added to her day by striking out five and tossing a no-hitter.

Jamesia Jones batted in three runs with a double and scored two runs. Joanna Smolsky (two RBI) and Gracie Hensley (RBI) each totaled two hits, while Kayleigh Kingston also had a hit with an RBI and run scored.

Sabine Pass improved to 10-7 and 5-2 in 24-2A.
