Memorial’s boys track and field team won five events and beat the second-place team by more points than it scored Friday in winning the Rockhold Relays in Baytown.

The 135 points Memorial scored was 71 more than runner-up Dickinson had.

James Ward won the 100-meter dash in 10.93 seconds and ran the opening leg on the 4×100- and 4×200-meter relay teams that both earned silver.

Micheal Odoms, Tyrence Augusta and Allen Santos completed the 4×100 team that ran 42.14 seconds. Kason Williams and Jatavian Neal replaced the last two legs for the 4×200 and helped the unit run 42.14.

Odoms was a winner in the 200 meters (22.22).

The Titans swept the hurdles events, with Harold Mosley breezing the 110 meters in 14.41 seconds and Alex Ned taking the 300 in 39.36. Kristopher Ross claimed the shot put at 53 feet, 2 inches.

Among other high finishes for Memorial: Lamont Freeman Jr. came in second in both the 400 (with Santos taking third) and the 800; Jessie Cornell ran second in the 300 hurdles; and the 4×400-meter team of Santos, Neal, Jaylon Guilbeau and Cornell running fourth.

In girls competition, Maya Flax of Memorial earned bronze in the shot put.

Next for the Memorial teams is the District 21-5A meet, Wednesday and Thursday at Barbers Hill.

 

BASEBALL

Nederland 8, Jasper 0

Conner Kemp struck out nine batters and held Jasper to three hits through six innings of Nederland’s 8-0 win at home Friday night.

Kemp walked one batter and threw 53 strikes out of 74 pitches.

Dylan Romero came on to strike out two visiting Bulldogs in a 12-pitch seventh. Seven of his pitches were strikes.

Landon Hiltz went 2 for 4 to lead the home Bulldogs’ offense. Wade Butler plated three runs and had one of Nederland’s nine hits. Adam Roccaforte, Omar Mascorro, Brock Holton, Rene Cunningham, Kamden Grant and Brian Davila also had hits in the win.

Nederland (10-7-2) will return to District 21-5A play at Dayton on Tuesday.

 

PNG 11, Dayton 0

In Dayton, the Indians shut out the Broncos for the two-game set thanks in large part to Carson Roccaforte’s one-hit, 10-strikeout gem. PNG won Tuesday’s game 8-0.

Roccaforte tossed strikes on 61 of 92 pitches and walked only two. He helped his cause at the plate, batting 2 for 5 with an RBI and run scored.

A seven-run sixth inning all but put the game out of each for PNG (9-11-1, 2-2 in 21-5A), which scored two runs in the first. The other two came in the seventh.

Blake Bost and Ryan Sosa each went 2 for 4 with two RBI. Dean Guidry, Khrisitan Curtis, Reece Mancera, Austin Schaper and Hunter Hranicky also hit safely for PNG.

Ian Golden had the lone hit for the Broncos, who committed six errors to the Indians’ one.

 

Barbers Hill 11, Memorial 3

In Mont Belvieu, a three-run fourth inning proved not enough for the Titans (5-6, 2-2 in 21-5A), but it marked the first time this year any team scored against the Eagles (13-5-2, 6-0).

River Orsak and Cameron Cauley each had three hits (one home run apiece) to power the district-leading Eagles, who tagged starter Van Ellas for six earned runs on eight hits in three innings. Ellas did strike out two.

Josue Rodriguez limited the damage with two earned runs on four hits over the next three innings.

Adler Kithler doubled twice to lead Memorial’s offense. Brandon Chaney, Jaylen LaPoint, Jeremiah Fielder and Johan Nakao had hits as well.

 

Bridge City 5, Evadale 3

In Bridge City on Saturday, Peyton Havard smashed a three-run home run with two outs to give the Cardinals (14-6-2, 4-1 in 22-4A) a non-district win over the Rebels.

The homer was Havard’s third in the past two games. He hit two jacks against West Orange-Stark on Friday.

Evadale had just taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth inning.

Cameron Yadon, Sam Carpenter, Jackson Tims, Kade Benoit and Slade Foreman also had hits as Bridge City overcame three errors to Evadale’s one.

Sam Carpenter came away with the pitching victory after throwing two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. He was the Cards’ fourth pitcher on the day.

Klay Sylvester and T.J. Boles each had two hits for Evadale.

 

Bridge City 20, West Orange-Stark 8

In West Orange on Friday, Peyton Havard homered twice, Logan Hamm smashed another homer to go with a double, and the Cardinals enjoyed a field day against the Mustangs.

Havard drove in six runs, scored three of his own and went 2 for 5. Hamm scored three runs and sent four across the plate going 2 for 3.

Cameron Yadon and Tanner Wilson each went 3 for 5 for BC. Yadon recorded two RBI and two runs, and Wilson scored three runs.

Jackson Tims (2), Ethan Oceguera and Slade Foreman had hits for the Cards.

Five BC pitchers took the mound, with Havard striking out five in three innings for the win.

West Orange-Stark used six pitchers and got three hits from Jalen Thompson, who homered and doubled. Thompson drove in four runs and scored twocie.

Justin Veitch went 2 for 4 with two RBI for the Mustangs.

 

Hamshire-Fannett 1, Lumberton 0

In Hamshire, a sacrifice by Trent Buchholz scored Jacob Garza for the lone run to protect Garza’s one-hit shutout win.

Garza fanned five and walked two in the win. He, along with Taylor Roggenkamp, Evan Viator, Buchholz, Gage Stark and Drake Bordages each had a hit in the win.

 

SOFTBALL

Barbers Hill 7, Nederland 0

In Mont Belvieu, Samantha Landry and Jackie Ortiz combined to limit Nederland (17-12, 5-2 in 21-5A) to one hit and end the Bulldogs’ six-game winning streak.

Brittany Taylor lined the lone Bulldogs’ hit. Destini Trahan allowed 10 hits and five earned runs in the complete-game loss, despite striking out seven Eagles.

Kaylee Hornberger went 3 for 4 with two runs for Barbers Hill (27-2, 7-0).

 

Cleveland 7, PNG 5

In Cleveland, Cameron Niedenthal and Maylin Louvier hammered out three hits apiece, but four errors came back to haunt the purple Indians (15-6, 4-3 in 21-5A) on the road.

PNG cut into a 4-0 deficit with a run in the second and two in the third, but the red-and-white Indians responded with three more runs in the third. PNG added a run each in the fifth and sixth innings.

Niedenthal went 3 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI. Louvier hit 3 for 4 with a double, RBI and run.

Bayja Newby (RBI) and Sydnee Adams (run) each went 2 for 4.

 

Sabine Pass 7, West Hardin 0

At Sabine Pass, Gracie Hensley and Jaizee Landry both went 4 for 4 and Hensley was a home run away from the cycle in a shutout win.

Landry struck out 16 and allowed four hits.

Landry tripled twice and batted in three runs. She scored two of her own and Hensley scored three.

Joanna Smolsky (2), Raquel Johnson (2), Kayleigh Kingston, Jamesia Jones and Kennedy LaJune had hits for the Sharks (9-6, 4-1 in 25-2A). Kingston batted in three runs.
