Suspects captured in Beaumont murder case

An 18-year-old Lufkin man and a 16-year-old juvenile have been captured and returned to Beaumont to face murder charges.

Beaumont police in an issued statement said they investigated the Tuesday shooting in which Olajuwon Vaughns, 23, of Beaumont was found dead at 3190 Eastex. Police followed multiple leads before seeking Matthew Marque Dwain Clevenger, 18, of Lufkin, and the juvenile, who was taken into custody in Alexandria, Louisiana. He was driving the vehicle used in the murder. Clevenger was taken into custody in Lufkin.

The investigation involved collaboration of multiple agencies, including Jefferson County Sherriff’s Office; Alexandria, Louisiana Police; and the U.S. Marshals Office.

The juvenile has been booked at Minnie Rogers Juvenile Detention Center, charged with murder. Clevenger has been booked in to The Jefferson County Jail, also charged with murder, police said.
