LEAGUE CITY — Port Arthur Memorial carried a one-point lead into halftime Saturday in the Clear Creek tournament, but Clear Creek High went on a big run in the second half to send the Titans to their second loss of the season, 70-57, on Saturday.

That was the consolation final. Earlier Saturday, Memorial defeated Clear Springs 77-76 behind Darion Chatman’s 20 points, Thailan Wesley’s 18 and 12 each from Reao Keller and Bishop James. Memorial is 7-2 following the Clear Creek game.

Against Clear Creek, Memorial had two players in double figures. Wesley led with 19 points and Chatman had 15. David Torres added nine.

“The team played extremely well this weekend,” Memorial assistant coach Antonio Cooper said. “The weekend was very successful and now we’re preparing for the Cy-Fair tournament in Cypress.”

The Cy-Fair tourney begins Thursday.

Memorial took a 33-32 halftime lead after trailing 18-15 through one period. Clear Creek, though, built a 49-42 lead through three quarters.

Bob Hope finishes tourney unbeaten
Bob Hope wrapped up its two-day tournament Saturday going unbeaten in three games for the championship.

The Eagles (6-1), who have won six straight, defeated Tekoa Academy 59-45 in the final game behind Nick King’s 29 points. Trevon Provost added 24 and Juan Esquivel had the final six points.

Earlier Saturday, Bob Hope beat Orange Community Christian 52-49 behind King’s 30 points, Provost’s 16 and Esquivel’s six.
Bob Hope started the tourney Friday with a 33-25 win over Val Verde Christian and have been playing without standout Chris May. Provost led the Eagles with 12 points and King totaled nine.
Other scores in the tournament: Community Christian 58, Tekoa 57; Tekoa 38, Val Verde 24 and Community Christian 39, Val Verde 27.

HAM.-FANNETT 63, SABINE PASS 50
SABINE PASS — Jamyus Jones led Sabine Pass with 19 points, but it was not enough for the Sharks to win the final game of their Shark Classic over the Longhorns.

Daniel Sam had 16 points and deflected two shots for the Sharks, but the Longhorns had one player score 25 points in their win.

Also in the tournament, High Island beat Boys Harbor, and in girls play, Colmesneil defeated Sabine Pass and High Island beat Nederland’s JV team, but scores were unavailable.

In other girls action, Memorial lost to Harker Heights and Lamar Consolidated in the YMBL South Texas Shootout in Beaumont, but scores were unavailable.
