Nederland boys, PNG girls run to XC titles

Nederland and Port Neches-Groves will both be well represented at the Class 5A Region III Cross Country Meet on Oct. 29 in Huntsville.

The Bulldogs and Indians had both boys and girls teams qualify for the meet after Tuesday’s District 22-5A Meet held at Claiborne Park in Vidor.

Nederland’s boys team won the event with a total time of 1:31:59. Livingston finished second at 1:39:17 and PNG was third at 1:41:09.

The top three teams qualify for the regional meet.

Nederland junior Carlos Rodriguez was the top finisher in the boys division with a time of 17:15.34. Bulldogs’ teammate and sophomore Carlos Barboza finished third with a time of 17:54.73.

PNG junior Collin Dietrich was fourth at 18:15.35, Nederland junior Jake Moore was a close fifth at 18:18.35 and Bulldogs freshman Blake Mortera finished sixth at 18:28.82.

Port Arthur Memorial junior Sergio Sanchez finished eighth in 18:41.61.

The top 10 individual finishers qualify for the regional meet.

The PNG girls won the team race with a total time of 1:52:10, with Nederland in second at 1:59:50. Lumberton came in third at 2:00:47.

PNG freshmen Anna Licatino and Carli Salinas took the top two individual spots. Licatino was first at 21:32.51 while Salinas came in second at 21:36.53.

Jaysa Miller, another PNG freshman, was fourth at 21:53.34 and Nederland junior Rachel Morrison was fifth with a time of 22:09.48.

Memorial sophomore Ny’Reonna Smith’s time of 22:51.51 was good enough for seventh place and Nederland senior Madison Ledet came in eighth with a finish of 23:07.34.

Milicent Neveu, a junior at Memorial, came in 10th with a time of 23:17.68.
