Josef Alan Degen, 77, also known as “Texaco Joe”, “Degie” and “Coconut Joe” of Nederland, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2016. Josef was born July 14, 1939 in Grand Cayman B.W.I. to the late Josef and Leolyn Bodden Degen. Josef was a seaman on the ship, Connecticut for Texaco Oil Company.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Phillips Degen of Nederland; daughters, Gail Bush of Grand Cayman Island, Cami Wade of Tomball, TX and Gina Clarke of Nederland, TX; sons, Paul Nixon of Grand Cayman, Presley Powery of Grand Cayman Island and Joseph Degen, Jr. of Nederland, TX; grandchildren, Shane Bothwell, Bree Ann Nixon, Adriel Ramirez, Andrew Degen, Elise Wade, Erin Clarke, Adam Clarke and 4 great grandchildren. Josef is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, James Bothwell.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Monday, September 5, 2016 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, TX. There will be funeral service on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, TX with a burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland, TX.
