WEST COLUMN: KAM Academy offering holiday junior golf camps

Young players looking to enhance their game will have three opportunities for intensive instruction over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday periods.
Kurt Picard and Mitch Duncan are offering a Turkey Camp (Nov. 23-24), a Christmas Camp (Dec. 21-22) and a New Year’s Camp (Dec. 28-29) at their KAM Academy at Bayou Din. The camps are open to juniors ages 7-18 for a fee of $125.
Camp hours will be 9 a.m. to noon each day with instruction covering fundamentals, rules and etiquette. Incorporated into the sessions will be teaching of the Like Skills Experience curriculum of the First Tee of the Golden Triangle. Contact person to register is Jerry Honza at 543-6364. …
PN-G golf coach Ricky Keyes was all smiles after another highly successful fundraiser that netted over $8,000 toward the Indians team travel and expenses not covered in the school budget. The three-person scramble tournament Saturday at Babe Zaharias was won with a 60 by the team of Lonnie LaBove, Karlei Hemler and Ralf Barbaso. Placing second with a 62 was the trio of Shane Trahan, Chris Oliver and Jerry Thompson. Closest to the pin winners were Thad Borne (No. 2) and Cameron Keith (No. 12). …
Former Lamar star Dawie van der Walt had his best finish as a card-carrying member of the PGA Tour in the OHL Classic won by Graeme McDowell. Dawie fired rounds of 66-74-64-70 for a 14-under 274 that was good for a 17th-place tie and a check of $84,165. Another LU ex, Shawn Stefani, finished T25 and won $52,855 with a 275.
PN-G exes Chris Stroud and Andrew Landry both missed the cut with 36-hole totals of 143. All four players are participating in this week’s RSM Classic at Sea Island, Georgia, that wraps up the 2015 portion of the 2015-16 schedule. …
Congratulations to former Beaumonter Anthony Broussard for a dominating performance in the second stage of Web.com Tour Q School at Deerwood Golf Club in Kingwood. The one time Kelly High School and University of North Texas star put together rounds of 66-66-70-70 for a 16-under 272 that won by five shots.
That earned Broussard entry into the Web.com Q school finals Dec. 10-13 in Jacksonville, Florida. He’s in position to earn a Web.com playing card for 2016 and follow Landry’s route to the PGA Tour. …
John Fukuda of Orangefield celebrated his first-ever hole in one Saturday at Zaharias. Fukuda sank his tee shot on the 147-yard No. 2 hole with a 7 iron. The ace was witnessed by Fukuda’s wife, Sandy. …
The Senior 50 Plus Game at Babe Zaharias was played in a best two-ball format. On the front, the team of Tim Turner, Bob Byerly and Rick Pritchett won with minus-8. The foursome of Gary Whitfill, Joe Gongora, Paul Duplantis and Marc Petry won the back with minus 7. …
The Babe Zaharias DogFight ended a two-way tie. Finishing with 16 points was the team of Benny Sharpe, Bill Jones, Roger Baumer and Charles Perez and the foursome of Don MacNeal, Buddy Sepeda, Gary Anderson and Tommy Lemire. Closest to the pin winners were Jay Hampson (No. 2), Jim Jordan (No. 7), Bob West (No. 12) and Ron Mistrot (No. 15). …
The Thursday Senior Game at The Babe was played in a two-person flighted format, with teams playing best ball on the front and scramble on the back. Tying for the top spot in First Flight with 68s was the team of Pritchett-Cap Hollier and West-Larry Vicknar. In Second Flight, Harry Green-Bob Barnes won with 70, finishing four shots clear of Joe Gongora-Paul Duplantis. The duo of Carl Hudman-Art Miller won Third Flight with a 79.
Closest to the pin winners were West (No. 2), Terry Jones (No. 7), Tom LeTourneau (No. 12) and Earl Richard (No. 15). …
The Super Saturday Game at the Babe was played in a best two-ball format. On the front, the team of West, Gene Jones, Hampson and Baumer won with minus-3. The team of Adam Noel, Pritchett, LeTourneau and Dan Flood won the back with minus-1.
