SOFTBALL: Lemoine stepping down from PNG softball post

Jessica Lemoine has stepped down as Port Neches-Groves softball head coach.

Lemoine led the Indians to the 5A playoffs in each of the past five years. PNG went 18-10 and 7-5 in District 21-5A, losing a one-game bi-district playoff to Santa Fe.

Lemoine said her new position won’t be announced until next week.

Her vacancy is the third for a PNG head coach in the past two weeks. Pat Abel stepped down as boys basketball coach and has been replaced by Nederland assistant Chris Smith. Longtime volleyball coach Barbara Comeaux resigned her post, and first varsity assistant Brittany Fruge has been elevated to succeed her.
