Suspect shot in early Sunday assault

Beaumont police searched Monday for a local man reported to have shot a second man in the face.

Police said the victim, 33, had given Elkin Savoy, 44, of Beaumont a ride early Sunday and then Elkin shot him when they arrived in the 4800 block of Park Street.

The witness took the victim to Baptist Hospital for treatment; from there, the victim was transferred to a Houston hospital, where he underwent surgery. The victim was in stable condition Monday morning.

Beaumont police said in an issued statement that a warrant was issued for Elkin George Savoy III for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.  His bond was set at $100,000.
