An eastbound Port Arthur police patrol car left the roadway on Gulfway Drive around 6:30 a.m. Friday, striking a utility pole.

The vehicle continued down the road and struck a building, an issued statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

The Port Arthur police officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Texas State Troopers are investigating the wreck.
