A Beaumont woman was shot in the lower abdomen Friday afternoon, and her brother in law was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Beaumont police said they responded to a 1:34 p.m. call from the victim to a residence in the 700 block of San Jacinto, where both the victim and suspect were inside. Officers took the suspect, Demarcus Antwon Chatmon, 38, of Beaumont into custody at the scene.

The victim, 42, was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where she went into surgery.

Chatmon was taken to Jefferson County Jail.
