Emergency workers responded around 11:30 a.m. Thursday to a five-vehicle collision scene at 39^th Street and Memorial.

Port Arthur police said an occupant in one of those vehicles involved had apparently been shot in the vicinity of 6900 Memorial Boulevard before that vehicle left the shooting scene at a high rate of speed, prior to the collision.

At least some of those at the collision site were transported to area hospitals, and police, who were investigating, closed the southbound lanes of Memorial.
