George Edward Diaz, 54, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away Sunday, February 26, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his family. George was born March 26, 1962 in Port Arthur, Texas to Gilbert and Isabel Diaz. He was a native of Port Arthur. George was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Class of 1981. George was a wonderful husband, father and an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. He loved to play bingo with his mom and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. George coached football and girls softball.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Diaz and Isabel Sandoval Diaz; daughter, Eliza Reyes; sisters, Theresa and Delores. He is survived by his loving wife, Leonor Diaz of Port Arthur; sons, Carlos A. Reyes and Javier Reyes of Port Arthur; daughters, Cristina Reyes and Vanessa Diaz of Port Arthur; brothers, Gilbert Diaz of Houston, Robert J. and his wife Lisa Diaz of Groves and Ernesto Diaz of Port Arthur; sisters, Yolanda and husband Charles Schrader of Groves and Rosie Cardenas of Groves. Mr. Diaz also leaves behind many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and many close friends to cherish his memories.
The family would like to especially thank Darryl Ellis Carter for all of his love and support. Darryl was more than a friend he was a brother to George. Thank you to all the friends and family of George for all your thoughts and prayers. Also, thank you to the Jefferson County Indigent Health Care and Compassion Hospice for caring for George in his final days.
A gathering of friends and relatives will be held Friday, March 3, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. A Celebration of Mr. Diaz’s life will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
