JANICE TODORA ON BOWLING: Fireworks erupt during first week of 2017

With the Jan. 1 fireworks coming and going, someone forgot to tell the bowlers at the Max as bowlers lay up the lane the first week of January.
With all the leagues getting under way for 2017, some new names appear in this week’s column. Bowling in the Monday night Valero League, Alice Barnes continues to dominate the senior ladies. Alice shot games of 206, 183 and 210 for a 599 series.
The Thursday night Energy Country Ford/Allstate League produced the rest of this week’s leaders. Gina Wilson led the way for the women this week as she shot games of 213, 246 and 196 for a nice 655 set. More of the lady bowlers are picking up their games recently to challenge the top female bowlers at the Max.
Bill White led all the senior men this week as he fired games of 248, 242 and 265 for a sweet 755 set.
As far as the fireworks go, Chris Rhodes lit it up when he absolutely crushed the lanes Thursday night with games of 278, 267 and 258 to start 2017 with an awesome 803 set.
Word has it that the fireworks continued this past week as a couple of honor scores were shot. More on that next week. Until then, good bowling.
