BERGLUND WINS BAYOU CITY CLASSIC

PEARLAND — A Lamar golf player earned medalist honors for the third time in as many tournaments as Mans Berglund posted a three-shot victory at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic that wrapped up Tuesday.
Berglund finished at 9-under-par 207 for 54 holes on the par-72, 7,254-yard Golfcrest Country Club layout. Berglund, who had rounds of 70 and 67 on Monday, posted a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday, with three birdies and one bogey on the final day for his second career win.
It was the third top-10 finish in as many tries this fall for Berglund, who tied for sixth at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate and plac3d third at the OGIO Utah Invitational, events that both saw LU’s Zander Gous earn medalist honors.
Berglund ended Tuesday three shots better than Zach Galiford of UT-Arlington and Charlie Hillier of Kansas, who each finished at 6-under 210. Hillier entered Tuesday tied for the lead with Berglund, but posted a 1-over-par 73 for his final round.
As a team, the Cardinals finished seventh in the 13-team event at 16-over-par 880. Kansas won the team title at 12-under 852, 17 strokes ahead of runner-up Houston.
Gous ended the event tied for 34th at 5-over 221 after a 74 on Tuesday. Eason Wang tied for 54th in the 80-player field at 9-over-par 225 after a 76 for the final round.
