PREP ROUNDUP: Bulldogs sweep Titans volleyball

Abbey Montalvo is having quite the senior year at Nederland.

Montalvo and the Nederland Bulldogs took care of the Port Arthur Memorial Titans in three sets Friday by scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-8.

Montalvo led Nederland with 31 assists and 20 digs to go with two aces and four kills as the Bulldogs improved to 6-1 in District 22-5A.

Blake MacFarlane added 11 kills, two aces and 7 digs while Darcie Jones finished with three aces and 20 digs.

Peyton Parker finished with six kills and two blocks, Chelsey Gallagher and Kennedy Kieschnick each had 11 digs and Katelynn Huckabay added seven kills.

Diamond Newsome and Nayla Bazile each had four kills for Memorial and LaEricca Lambert added three.

Nederland hosts Lumberton and Memorial travels to Livingston Tuesday. Both games are scheduled at 6:30 p.m.

PNG 3, LIVINGSTON 0

LIVINGSTON — The Port Neches-Groves Rock-A-Noos finished the first half a perfect 7-0 after Friday’s three-set win over Livingston.

PNG won the match 25-21, 25-14 and 25-17 behind 11 service points, 15 digs and nine kills by Libbie LeJeune. Rachel Hammersmith added 17 service points, 11 digs and 11 assists while Kailey Oliver finished with 13 service points and three blocks.

Bayja Newby had eight digs, Hannah Jones had 10 kills, both Kaitlyn Gil and Cheyanne Orozco had six kills and Baylee Priddy had 11 assists.

PNG hosts Ozen at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

FOOTBALL

WOS 45, KENNEDALE 21

NACOGDOCHES — Jack Dallas led a strong offensive attack to lead the West Orange-Stark Mustangs to a 45-21 win over the Kennedale Wildcats.

After throwing three interceptions last week against Silsbee, Dallas roared back in Week 6 throwing for 264 yards and three total touchdowns (two pass, one rush).

The WOS Chain Gang brought their usual stout defense as they held the Wildcats (2-3) to just 89 yards of offense through three quarters of play and only allowing five total first downs on the night. Despite the Wildcats being the first team to score an offensive point on the Mustangs (6-0), WOS has outscored their opponents a whopping 299-23 in 2016.

The Mustangs will their district schedule starting next Friday playing host to the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns (1-5).

ORANGEFIELD 31,

DIBOLL 21

DIBOLL — The Orangefield Bobcats captured a tough 31-21 road win in Diboll Friday night with the help of a strong running game.

Orangefield (3-3) totaled over 300 rushing yards in the game and Christopher McGee led the team with 171 yards and three touchdowns on 17 totes.

The Bobcats finished with 316 yards, 305 on the ground on 47 carries.

Running back Wesley Frillou had 81 yards on the ground for the Bobcats while quarterback Caleb Kress, who sat out last week’s 52-0 win against Beaumont Kelly after a concussion at Little Cypress-Mauriceville, had 50 yards.

The Bobcats visit undefeated Liberty next week in District 12-4A Division II action.
