Cardinals take Chaps Invite by 26 strokes

LUBBOCK — Lamar has won its second straight men’s golf tournament, winning the big trophy at the Chaps Invitational by 26 strokes.
Lamar’s three-round 849 was well ahead of second-place Western Texas College. Twelve teams took part in the tournament.
Zander Gous, the reigning Southland Conference Golfer of the Month, shot the lowest round of the tournament with a 65 and finished 7-under 209 through 54 holes, just two strokes behind Devin Jackson of Texas Tech. He helped Lamar win the James S. Litz Memorial in February by medaling in the event.
Also for Lamar, Mans Berglund came in fifth at 210, Gregory Wiggins turned in 213, Eason Wang was 13th at 219 and Charlie Flowers tied for 38th place at 229.
The Lamar women’s team lead the UTRGV Invitational in McAllen by four strokes over Wichita State. Reigning Southland women’s Golfer of the Month Olivia Le Roux turned in a 1-over 72 and is at 149 through two rounds. She’s one stroke behind Nicole Budnik of Sam Houston State.
First-round leader Taylor Stockton is in fourth at 150, and Kura Poko and Wenny Chang were among three tied for 10th at 154.
The final round is today.
