PNG ranked 19th in media composite poll

To get an idea of where Port Neches-Groves stacks among America’s high school baseball’s best teams based on a number of national polls, the Indians still rank among the top 20.

MaxPreps released its media composite poll, which utilizes seven national polls to come up with an average rank for each team. PNG, which won the 5A state baseball championship last month, is placed 19th in the composite poll.

PNG earned an average rank of 28.1 with a high of No. 12 in MaxPreps’ Xcellent 50 rankings.

Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game ranked the Indians 20th and 21st, respectively, but the Indians did not garner ratings from MaxPreps Computer, USA Today Expert or USA Today Computer, which are also utilized in the composite poll.

Abilene Wylie, the 4A champion, is the highest-ranked Texas team in the media composite poll at No. 14, followed by 6A champion Deer Park at No. 15. PNG was the highest-ranked Texas team in the Xcellent 50.
