Cardinals softball blanks Syracuse

LAS VEGAS — Ciara Luna pitched seven innings of four-hit softball Friday as the Lamar Cardinals blanked Syracuse 3-0 at the UNLV Tournament.

Luna struck out four batters and walked two after facing 25 hitters.

Lamar took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Ashley McDowell scored on a whild pitch.

Catcher Sable Hankins in the sixth inning blasted a two-run homer to left to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead.

Hankins finished 2 for 3 on teh day while Sarah Ragsdale was 1 for 3.

The Cardinals had three hits off two Syracus pitchers and committed three errors.

Lamar (1-0) played a late game Friday against UNLV and face No. 9-ranked Oklahoma at 1:15 p.m. today and Utah Valley at 1:30 p.m.
