Traffic detour scheduled for Rainbow Bridge; Veteran’s Bridge to hold two-way traffic

A traffic detour for the Rainbow Bridge between Bridge City and Port Arthur will be put into place Friday, Feb.  26, and last until the current maintenance project on the bridge is completed.

The detour will allow for two lanes of traffic to travel north and one lane of traffic to travel south over the Veterans Memorial Bridge which runs parallel to the Rainbow Bridge. One lane of traffic will continue to flow over the Rainbow Bridge, however, it is anticipated that the Rainbow Bridge will be closed to all traffic on most weekends due to more extensive work taking place, according to a press release from the Texas Department of Transportation.

The Rainbow Bridge is undergoing a two-year maintenance project with an anticipated completion of late 2016.
