PORT NECHES — A trio of Port Neches-Groves seniors signed college scholarships Thursday.
Abbey Sturdivant and Alyssa Talbot both are going to continue to play soccer while Kelsey Collier signed to play volleyball.
Sturdivant decided on East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, in east Texas east of Longview and north of Carthage.
“I am thankful to have the opportunity to continue to keep playing soccer,” Sturdivant said. “I had been looking through schools and taken visits. I went to a camp at another school and the coach was there and he talked to me and then we traded emails.
“I went for a visit and I was sold. It was the best visit I took this year. I am glad I am not done playing soccer. That is what I was worried about the most and know I would have been sad if it was over.”
Talbot chose Texas Weselyn in Fort Worth.
“I am very excited to play at the next level,” Talbot said. “The coaches emailed me after watching a video of me playing and invited me to try out.
“This year was very exciting at PN-G. It is hard to leave these teammates. I feel like it was freshman year two weeks ago and now we are signing to go to college.”
Collier signed with Paris Junior College putting her northeast of Dallas.
“I liked how it is a small town like here and feels like home,” Collier said. “It is not a big city. It felt great knowing I will keep playing volleyball.
“I know they emailed my mom and asked me to go to a private try out and that is when they offered a scholarship. I had a blast at PN-G. I am sad about leaving.”
