Off duty Port Arthur officer involved in one-vehicle crash

Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety say alcohol may be a factor in a one-vehicle involving an off duty Port Arthur Police officer.

The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 8 in front of the Valero plant on Texas 87. The call was originally dispatched to the Port Arthur Police Department and DPS was contacted by PAPD to assist on scene, according to a press release from DPS.

According to initial reports, a pickup truck was traveling on Texas 87 in Jefferson County when the driver veered off the roadway and hit several metal structures.

The driver of the truck, identified as Christopher Michael Duncan, 32, of Nederland, was transported to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. His injuries were not life threatening.

Troopers are in the preliminary stages of the investigation, but suspect that alcohol may have contributed to this crash.  All crash information is preliminary and this in an ongoing crash investigation.
