Suspect named in Beaumont bank robbery

BEAUMONT — A Beaumont man has been named as a suspect in Monday’s armed robbery of Chase Bank.

The suspect has been identified as John Keith Lewis, 22, according to a press release from the Beaumont Police Department.

BPD’s Special Assignments Unit and the Federal Bureau of Investigation apprehended the suspect around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police were called to Chase Bank, 350 S. Dowen Road and learned an armed robber pointed a handgun at a teller’s head as she removed all of the money from her drawer and placed it in a small bag.

He then fled out of the west exit doors and across the street through a small gate that leads into Lancaster Cornwall Apartments.

During the suspects escape he left a trail of money and other items on the ground as he made his way through the complex and possibly to a waiting vehicle. A K-9 officer and his partner responded to the scene and tracked the suspect and money until the dog lost scent in the parking lot, according to previous reporting.
