GOLF: Landry moves up 21 places; Arnaud still in hunt
Andrew Landry climbed 21 places up the leaderboard with a 68 Saturday in the Jack Nicklaus-hosted Memorial Tournament, while Michael Arnaud also posted a 68 to keep his hopes alive in the Web.com Tour Rex Hospital Open.
Landry reeled off eight birdies on Nicklaus’ Muirfield Village course in Dublin, Ohio, to move into a tied for 48th in a good round that would have been spectacular if not for a double bogey and two bogeys.
The Port Neches-Groves ex made bogey on his first hole, and double bogey on the par-3, fourth, but other than that was near flawless. After making the cut on the number at even par 144, he stands at four-under 212.
He had birdies at the par-4, second; the par-4, third; the par-5, fifth; the par-5, seventh and the par-3, ninth. On the back he had birdies at the par-4, 14th, the par-5, 15th and the par-4, 17th.
Lamar ex Dawie van der Walt, also in the Web.com event, shot his third consecutive round in the 60s and is tied for 36th. He’s at 205 after rounds of 69-68-69.
Arnaud, meanwhile, did all his damage on the front nine of the TPC course Wakefield Plantation in Raleigh, North Carolina. He had birdies at the par-4, third, the par-5, fourth and the par-4, eight. Other than that, he had 15 pars on the way to shooting 33-35 for his 68 and a 54-hole total of 204.
The West Orange-Stark ex is tied for 17th, seven shots off the lead of Michael Johnson, who shot 65 for 197.
