NEDERLAND — The Nederland Bulldogs had no problems taking apart the Lumberton Raiders on Tuesday night. Nederland strummed Lumberton to the tune of 10 runs on nine hits and that all came in five innings.

    Defensively, Nederland was just as sharp. Kirby Bellow went all five innings, he struckout seven and allowed just two hits and zero runs, giving the Dogs a 10-0 victory.

     With the win, Nederland moves to 10-7 overall and 6-1 in District 20-4A where it is in a three-way tie for first place with LC-M and PN-G.

     Trey Terracina went 2-for-2 on Tuesday with a double and a homer. Nick Cardenas was 3-for-3 with a triple, a double and a single. Cody Laird also had two singles.

     The Bulldogs will travel to Beaumont to square off with Ozen on Thursday night. That game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Nederland’s win also furthered the gap between the district’s top teams and the rest of the pack, as fifth place Lumberton fell to 3-4 with the loss. Vidor, which Nederland beat Friday, still sits in fourth place with a 4-3 district record.



PN-G 23, Central 1

PORT NECHES — The Port Neches-Groves Indians have been rocking the cover off the baseball lately and Tuesday night’s 23-1 victory over Central was no different.

    The Tribe racked up 18 hits, scoring nine runs in the second, six in the third and eight more in the fourth. Hunter Denzlinger went yard twice. The first of which was a grandslam. He also had a single.

    Also for the Indians, Blake Reyenga had a triple and a single, Austin Stone had four singles, Austin Sangster had two singles and Matt Woods recorded two singles.

    Woods was also the winning pitcher. He went four innings allowed just one run on one hit, struckout seven and walked two. The one hit and the two walks all came in the first inning, which is when Central scored its only run. Woods settled down from there and then handed the fifth inning over to Chris Sweetenham, who struckout the side in order.

     With the win, PN-G improves to 10-8 overall and 6-1 in District 20-4A and sits in a three-way tie with Nederland and LC-M for first place.

     The Tribe will look to revenge their only district loss of the season when they go to Mauriceville on Thursday. The Indians lost a 5-2 decision to the Bears in that league opener at the Reservation.



Lady Lions 9, Lady Indians 8

LIVINGSTON — The Port Neches-Groves Lady Indians gave it all they had on Tuesday night. Fighting tooth and nail for their playoff lives, the Lady Tribe was trying to avoid a second 0-3 stretch through the district’s top three teams but not even eight runs was enough for PN-G on Tuesday.

    The Lady Indians scored five runs in the top of the sixth to knot the game at 8-8. It was the first tie in the contest. PN-G started the game with a run in the first and another in the third that gave the Lady Tribe a 2-0 lead, but the Lady Lions rallied back for three runs of their own in the third.

    Then they scored one in the fourth, four in the fifth and then the decisive run in the seventh, which clinched the Lions a 9-8 victory.

   The loss sent PN-G to 11-13 overall and 4-6 (sixth place) in District 20-4A. The Lady Indians will return to action with a home bout against Vidor on Thurdsday. That game is set to start at 5:30 p.m. PN-G went 4-0 through this portion of its schedule during the first half of district play. The Lady Tribe will almost have to repeat that success this time around if they are to pull out a playoff spot.

   Mallory Livingston, Kate Fawcett and Taylor Walling led the way for the Lady Indians on Tuesday. Fawcett went 3-for-4 with two triples and three runs. Walling was also 3-for-4. She had a double and two runs. Livingston was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs.
