Nederland Independent School District is currently developing their home-bound educational learning program to include an abundance of online learning activities and videos.

On Monday, elementary campus principals began reading their favorite books to district students through Facebook Live as a way to keep children engaged.

The program started with Helena Park Elementary Principal Charlotte Junot reading “The Wonky Donkey.”

Highland Park Elementary Principal Sissy Yeaman followed Tuesday reading St. Patrick themed “Luck of the Irish,” dressed in a green bowtie, clown wig and hat.

Wednesday, Langham Elementary Principal Toby Latiolais read “One Big Pair of Underwear,” in a large bear suit and oversized undergarments.

Communications Coordinator Rene Latiolais said the reading program started as a fun way to get kids involved through distant learning.

“We wanted to spread a little cheer and our love of reading to our students and the communities around us,” she said. “To show our students that the people they are familiar with and spend so much time with are still here, still working hard for them and anxiously waiting to see them again soon.

“We will continue to showcase our campus leaders and teachers throughout this event and hope people can use these videos as a way to bring a smile to someone’s face.”
