Two women were jailed this week, charged by Port Arthur police with promoting illegal gambling.

According to the PAPD, investigators ran an undercover operation Thursday night at two 8-Liner Gaming Businesses because they “had reason to believe” the businesses operating illegal gambling promotions.

Police said an undercover officer was sent into Lucky Game Room at 1110 9th Avenue and Shanghi Game Room at 3919 Gulfway Drive to play 8-Liner Gaming Machines.

“While inside, the attendants of the above businesses facilitated in the promotion of illegal gambling,” a PAPD release said. “Once this occurred, the undercover officer advised what transpired and gave a detailed description to the CRU and CRT Units, who were in the area standing by.”

Authorities said the attendants were placed under arrest for the illegal operation of the gaming facilities.

The suspects are 45-year-old Thu Huong Tran and 48-year-old Ngoc Nguyen. They were charged with gambling promotion and transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.
