NEDERLAND — Dozens of volunteers and more than 200 students teamed up Wednesday at Nederland High School for an interview seminar.

The effort exposed seniors nearing their graduation date to a mock, one-on-one interview with a local professional from outside the school system.

Students receive personalized feedback and are also critiqued on a performance checklist that goes over everything from eye contact to small talk.

As a token of appreciation, volunteers for Wednesday’s mock interviews left with a treat.

Bill Jardell, career technology education director, joked with volunteers that this week’s seminar was the school’s 25th, and it was his job to make sure the annual event continued long after he left.

He stressed to volunteers that teenagers can be very nervous when sitting across the table from an adult and asked for the local professionals to be positive in their evaluations.
