Check out the latest filings ahead of the May 2 election

Filing continues in municipal, school district, drainage district and port races for the May 2 election.

Port Arthur

A total of six seats are up for grabs on the Port Arthur City Council, including District 1 held by Raymond Scott Jr., District 2 held by Cal Jones, District 3 held by Thomas Kinlaw III, District 4 held by Harold Doucet Sr. and at-large seats Position 7 held by Charlotte Moses and Position 8 held by Kaprina Richardson Frank.

Scott has reached his term limit and cannot file to run for the same seat, according to the city.

  • District 1 has drawn two opponents, Ingrid West Holmes who is employed with Stategic Healthcare and manager of Gift of Life, and Willie “Bae” Lewis Jr., retired.

Lewis previously served on city council.

  • District 2 has one candidate so far, Armando Ruiz who lists his occupation as consultant.
  • District 3 also has one candidate, Morris Albright III, president of Port Iron. Albright previously served on council.
  • District 4 has no candidates at this time
  • Position 7 has one candidate, the incumbent councilmember Charlotte Marie Moses.
  • Position 8 has drawn two candidates so far; Tieranny S. DeCuir, a business owner, and Raymond Scott Jr., retired.

Scott has reached his term limit in the District 1 seat and has set his sights on the Position 8 seat.

Those wishing to file for a Port Arthur City Council seat can do so at the city secretary’s office in city hall, 444 Fourth St.

Terms are for three years.

Port Arthur Independent School District

Two seats are up for grabs on the PAISD board of trustees and both incumbents have filed for reelections. They include Dianne Brown and Kenneth W. Lofton Sr.

Terms are for three years.

Persons wishing to file for a seat on the school board can do so at the administration office, 4801 Ninth Ave.

Nederland City Council

Two seats are up for grabs on Nederland City Council this election cycle, including the Ward I seat held by Talmadge Austin and the Ward III seat held by Emmett Hollier.

Hollier ran successfully for the seat last year when it was vacated by Don Albanese, who dropped off the city council to run for mayor, a position he won.

So far only Hollier has filed for election.

Terms are for three years.

Interested persons can pick up a packet to apply at Nederland City Hall, 207 N. 12th St., Nederland.

Nederland Independent School District

The two NISD trustee incumbents; Kay DeCuir and Jerry Albanese, have filed to keep their spots on the board.

Terms are for three years and are at-large.

Interested persons can pick up a packet to apply at the NISD administration building, 220 17th St., Nederland.

Jefferson County Drainage District 7 Board of Commissioners

The DD7 board of commissioners is a five person board with one representative from each of the Mid County cities and two from Port Arthur that serve two year staggered terms and elections are held in May of even numbered years.

The seats held by Richard Beaumont, representing Groves; Billy Joe Butler, representing Port Neches; and James Gamble Sr., representing Port Arthur are up for grabs.

As of Friday afternoon there had been one filing, Matt Vincent who filed for the Port Neches seat.

The physical address to file an application for a place on the ballot is Community Bank Building, 4749 Twin City Hwy., Suite 300, Port Arthur.

Sabine Pass Port Commissioners

The Sabine Pass Port Commissioners is a five person board of which two seats are up for election. They include the seats held by Bob Sexton and Jerry Heid.

As of Friday, no one had filed for either seat.

Terms are for two years.

Persons wishing to file can do so at the Sabine Pass Port Authority Office, 5960 S. First Ave., Sabine Pass.

Sabine Pass Independent School District

Three seats on the Sabine Pass ISD Board of Trustees are up for election including the seats held by Lane Plauche, Julie Saunders and Charlene Deslatte.

A person who answered the phone at Sabine Pass School did not have information on who has filed so far.

Those wishing to file for a seat on the SPISD school board can submit applications at the school, 5641 S. Gulfway Drive, or mail applications for a place on the ballot to Sabine Pass School, P.O. Box 1148, Sabine Pass, TX 77655, Attn. Duyen Blanton.

Filing dates

Filing for a spot on the municipal or school board ballots ends on Feb. 14.

The general election day is May 2.
