Jefferson County grand jury indictments this week include charges against a Port Arthur man who police said forged a deed to a home and tried to sell it and a Beaumont man who reportedly slammed a Chihuahua against a tree, killing it.

According to court documents, Paul Davis Cesar, 41, of Port Arthur was charged with forgery after a woman reported suspicious activity at a neighbor’s home in Beaumont. The home had been vacant since the owners’ death in 2013 and the property deemed inhabitable.

The woman checked pubic records and noted a deed signed by the now deceased owner as well as a “for sale” sign in the yard. A neighbor reportedly called the number on the sign and a man named Paul Cesar answered.

Close inspection of the deed by law enforcement showed some irregularities and that he had paid taxes on the property.

The suspect later made a statement to police about forging the warrant deed.

Tyrone Mattox, 18, of Beaumont was indicted for throwing a dog against a tree, killing it on Nov. 23.

According to court documents, Mattox assaulted an ex-girlfriend and vandalized her apartment — throwing items on the floor, breaking items and putting holes in the sheetrock.

The woman reportedly called Mattox’s mother to calm him down. She was holding the ex-girlfriend’s 6-year-old brown female Chihuahua named Leia who had escaped the apartment during the assault. He then took the dog and “violently threw the dog against a tree; the dog’s head hit the tree killing it almost immediately.”

He then picked the dog and threw it near the dumpster on site. He as arrested the next day on an unrelated charge at which time a Beaumont police officer questioned him about the family violence and cruelty case.
