Betty H. Richardson, 84, of Groves, Texas died peacefully in her sleep on November 26, 2019 in Austin, Texas.

She was born December 11, 1934 in Clarks, Louisiana to Henry Levi Hanchey, Jr. and Wilma Whitehead Hanchey.

Betty graduated from Grayson High School and moved to Port Arthur when she was 18 years old.

She worked for Southwestern Bell in Port Arthur for many years before deciding to enroll in Lamar University Port Arthur.

She later was employed as an Administrative Assistant in pastoral care with St. Mary Hospital.

Betty had lived in Groves for over 65 years before moving to be near her daughter in Austin this year.

She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, and a former member of the Port Arthur Christian Women’s Club and the Groves Beautification committee.

Betty loved reading, taking care of her yard, gardening and crocheting handicraft items.

In retirement, she enjoyed word puzzles and following professional football and golf.

A devoted mother, she was also a caregiver for several family members in their later years.

She will be remembered as being an elegant, kind, and generous woman who put the needs of others above her own.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, December 13, 2019 at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Wilma and H.L. Hanchey, first husband, Gayle “Bud” Mills (who was killed in a tragic accident three months after they were married) and second husband, Marvin Richardson.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Richardson Campbell and husband Andy, sisters, Charlene Brewer and husband Perry, Carolyn Pittman and husband Pete, brother, Glenn Hanchey and wife Carol and many nieces,
nephews and cousins.
