Lamar State sports information

Four Lamar State College Port Arthur softball players, including three freshmen, were named to the NJCAA All-Region XIV Team on Tuesday.

Sophomore Bailey Crorey earned second-team honors at catcher. Crorey, a graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School in Port Neches, had a .995 fielding percentage, committing just one error in 195 total chances during the 2019 campaign. She threw out five base runners during the year.

Freshmen Britni Hunt, Brooke Smith and Rebecca DeLome joined Crorey among the second-team all-conference honors.

Hunt, a pitcher from PNG High School, started 22 games this season, earning an 11-10 won-loss record. She threw 13 complete games with a 3.71 earned run average over 136 innings. She had 119 strikeouts, averaging better than six strikeouts a game. She appeared in 17 conference games, earning a 13-7 won-loss record with a 3.90 ERA. She had 59 strikeouts in league action.

Smith, a centerfielder from PNG High School, played in 43 games in 2019, picking up a .348 batting average. She had 13 doubles, seven triples and five home runs, adding 20 walks during the year. She crossed the plate 39 times with 33 runs batted in. Against Laredo College on April 19, she went 2 for 2 with two home runs. Overall in conference play, she hit .380 with seven doubles, three triples and five home runs. She picked up 23 RBIs and 30 runs scored. In the field this season, she had a .904 percentage with nine errors in 94 total chances.

DeLome earned her honors as a designated player. A graduate of Crosby High School, DeLome finished the year with a .359 batting average. She had seven doubles, a triple and a home run with three walks.
