Port Neches-Groves dominated Friendswood in a Friday doubleheader.

The reward is keeping the season alive and moving into the area round of the 5A baseball playoffs.

PNG won 8-2 and 6-0 to win the bi-district series two games to one at The Ballparks in Crosby. The Indians will face either District 23-5A Houston Milby or 24-5A fourth place Shadow Creek next week.

Friendswood won the first game, 2-1, Thursday.

Grant Rogers and Carson Roccaforte threw back-to-back complete games Friday for the Indians (18-13-1), the third seed from 21-5A.

PNG led 2-0 going into the top of the sixth inning, when Reece Mancera delivered a double to score Blake Bost. Hunter Hranicky singled to move Bost to third, and Roccaforte hit a two-out RBI single to continue the onslaught.

Dean Guidry hit an infield single to load the bases, and Ryan Sosa followed with a two-run single.

Austin Schaper knocked in the game’s first run in the fourth inning, and a throwing error in the fifth allowed PNG’s second run.

 

GAME 2

PNG 8, Friendswood 2

PNG attacked 22-5A runner-up Friendswood from start to finish in Game 2. The Indians plated three runs in the first, one each in the fourth and fifth innings and three in the sixth, while outhitting the Mustangs 6-3. Friendswood had a run each in the second and sixth innings.

Dean Guidry executed a squeeze bunt in the seventh to give PNG its sixth run. Khristian Curtis reached with bases loaded to allow Carson Roccaforte to score, and the next pitch, Blake Bost batted Guidry home on a fielder’s choice.

Austin Schaper drove in a run with two outs in the fifth. The inning before, Roccaforte hit a two-out double to plate Reece Mancera.

An error in the first allowed Roccaforte to score. Schaper added to that an RBI walk and Mancera a sacrifice fly.
