The cities of Nederland and Port Arthur are in the midst of elections with both hosting mayoral races and Nederland Independent School District has two bond proposals on the ballot. Early voting totals for Nederland soared as the city and school district tallied 3,219 votes.

Summary of charter amendments

Amendment A

This amendment would require candidates running for city council members to live within the wards they wish to represent for a year prior to the election.

Amendment B

This amendment would require councilmembers to fill a vacancy by council vote if the unexpired term is fewer than 12 months. Any vacancy greater than 12 months must be filled by a special election within 120 days after the vacancy occurs.

Amendment C

This amendment states before the city should be found liable for any damages for any personal injury or property damage, one must give the city written notice within 60 days of the damage. The letter must include details about the damage, as well as any witnesses.
