State Troopers reported that a Toyota passenger vehicle driven by David Nelson, 43, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 when for an unknown reason the driver lost control and traveled off the road.

In an attempt to get the vehicle back onto the roadway, the driver over-corrected, causing the vehicle to roll over several times before coming to rest. After impact, the vehicle caught fire.
Nelson was extricated from the vehicle and transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Eastbound traffic lanes were closed, but reopened to traffic about an hour later.
