BASEBALL: Indians shut out Mavs in home doubleheader

Port Neches-Groves’ pitchers kept Manvel off the scoreboard in a Thursday doubleheader at The Reservation.

Grant Rogers tossed a four-hit complete game win as PNG beat Manvel 2-0 in the first game. Khristian Curtis then struck out eight and held the Mavericks to two hits in six innings of a 7-0 victory.

The Indians (7-9-1) have won five of their last six, but they overcame two errors to win the doubleheader opener. Dean Guidry batted 3 for 3, while Carson Roccaforte, Curtis and Keaton Richard (double) had the other PNG hits. Blake Bost and Curtis drove in the runs.

Manvel made two miscues and PNG avoided mistakes in the second game. Reece Mancera (two RBI) and Richard each drove in two runs, with Reid Porter, Blake Bost and Roccaforte each knocking in one apiece.

Curtis and Mancera (double) each delivered two hits. Dean Guidry and Hunter Hranicky had one apiece.

Roccaforte struck out three and walked two in the seventh inning.
