JUCO BASKETBALL: Chris Thomas’ 20 off bench leads Seahawks in rout

Christavious Thomas came off the bench and earned enough playing time to reach a double-double.

Thomas had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Lamar State College Port Arthur to a 103-57 home victory over Lone Star College-Cy Fair on Tuesday night. The game was the first of two for Casey Apetrei as Lamar State’s acting head coach while Lance Madison is in Indiana attending his mother’s funeral.

Thomas had five offensive rebounds and shot 9 of 16 from the floor. Devaughn Thomas led all starters with 17 points and six rebounds (all offensive), Devin Ellis tallied 12 points, 11 rebounds and three steals and Colin Just had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Terrance Minor was one point away from the Seahawks’ fourth double-double He totaled 11 assists. Memorial graduate Jamyus Jones totaled 10 points and classmate Darion Chatman finished with eight points and three steals.

The win capped a three-game home stand but ended a two-game slide for the Seahawks (14-8), who stepped out of Region XIV play Tuesday. They led 49-29 at halftime.

Marcus Merchant had 20 points and eight rebounds and Tristen Burks totaled 11 points and eight rebounds for Cy Fair, which competes as a club team.

Lamar State will face Coastal Bend College at 4 p.m. Saturday in Beeville.
