Nederland needed a clutch play to win for the second time in eight days.

Bryce McMorris sank a three-point basket at the buzzer to give the Bulldogs a 51-48 boys basketball win at Cleveland on Tuesday. The Bulldogs beat Vidor 44-41 a week earlier after Hayden Hefner stole and inbound pass and drove for a dunk to make it a three-point game in the final seconds.

Statistics from the game were unavailable, but the Bulldogs (20-11, 6-3) won for just the second time in the past five games. They will host Dayton on Friday.

 

GIRLS HOOPS

Hull-Daisetta 58, Sabine Pass 23

In Sabine Pass, the Sharks suffered through a blowout loss to the Bobcats.

Hull-Daisetta had three players in double figures. Yainn Zuniga led the Sharks with nine points.

Sabine Pass will visit Evadale on Friday.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Nederland 3, Memorial 2, OT

In Nederland, the Bulldogs started District 21-5A play with an overtime win over the Titans.

Ethan Vincent, Carsen Arline and Payne Barrow each scored for the Bulldogs. Juan Reyes and Barrow each assisted.

Nederland (4-4-2, 1-0 in 21-5A) will visit Barbers Hill on Friday. Memorial has a bye date Friday and will travel to Barbers Hill next Tuesday.

 

PNG 6, Liberty 0

In Port Neches, Jason Lovejoy registered a hat trick, and Port Neches-Groves finished its non-district tuneup by blanking the Panthers.

Jesus Maldonado, Sergio Aguilar and Mario Oceguera also scored for PNG (8-5-1), which will visit Cleveland to open 21-5A play on Friday.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Nederland 3, Memorial 0

In Port Arthur, Meg Sheppard, Madison Plumley and Skylar Thomassie all scored, and Nederland (9-1-2, 1-0 in 21-5A) opened district play with a shutout of the Lady Titans (4-6-1, 0-1).

Amber Borel earned the shutout in the net.

Nederland hosts Barbers Hill on Friday. Memorial will take Friday off and host Barbers Hill on Tuesday.

 

PNG 7, Jasper 0

In Jasper, the 4A state runner-up Bulldogs had no answer for Ariel Muller.

The senior scored four goals, and PNG (7-3-4) closed its non-district slate with a shutout win.

Kelsie Comeaux had two goals and Zoe Scroggs scored the other. Kaylee Landry, Mia Delgadillo and Muller each made two assists, with Izzy Volk dishing one.

“We had a great second half,” PNG coach Aimee Bates said. “The girls played great and played great soccer. We are looking forward to starting district Friday against Cleveland at the Reservation.”
