Wreck ruptures natural gas pipeline; traffic halted

A one-vehicle wreck on State Highway 62 caused a natural gas pipeline to rupture and halted traffic Friday afternoon in Orange County, the Department of Public Safety reported.

DPS said Yuniel Carbonell-Cleger, 36, of Port Arthur was southbound on 62 in her Volkswagen passenger vehicle near Tulane in Orange County when a mechanical malfunction caused her to veer off the road and hit the pipeline.

Carbonell-Cleger was not injured but her passenger, Jaydar Medina, 35, of Port Arthur was transported to Medical Center of Southeast Texas with minor injuries.

Troopers responded to the scene around 2:30 p.m.

Center Point Energy crews also responded.
