Grandson indicted; accused of beating elderly woman

A Jefferson County grand jury indicted a resident of the China community this week after he was accused of beating his elderly grandmother.

An arrest affidavit said Ashton Vosburgh, 36, was accused Oct. 23 of beating the woman, 83, at her home on Dallas Street. She told investigators her grandson was angry and accused her of telling others that he had stolen from her.

Investigators from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the victim, who is confined to a wheelchair, had a bruised face and an abrasion to her forehead.

The woman’s caregiver said the victim told her that her grandson punched her twice in the head; one blow knocked her false bottom teeth out of her mouth.

Vosburgh was held in the Jefferson County Correctional Center on Thursday on a bond of $50,000 on the charge of injury, elderly person, family violence.

He was also being held on charges that included trespassing and tampering with evidence.
