BEAUMONT — For the second time this season, the Lamar women’s basketball team held an opponent under 40 points. LU routed LeTourneau University, 104-27, on Tuesday evening at the Montagne Center.

The win for the Cardinals is their 31st straight victory at home. LU shot 55.4 percent in the contest as they had five players score in double-figures. Lola Bracy led the Cards with 22 points. Chastadie Barrs followed with 15 points. Barrs also recorded three steals in the game moving her into fourth place on the All-Time NCAA Steals list. The Cards had 11 players score in the contest.

“We came out strong and forced LeTourneau into turnovers early and scored easy baskets. After the first half, we came up an idea that we had to talk on defense and box out as we feel we are not doing those little things and this is preparing us for the future,” head coach Robin Harmony stated. “Every time they did not talk or box out we would have a sprint.”

The Cardinals came out clicking on both ends of the court as they scored the first 18 points of the contest and forced LeTourneau into five turnovers over the first 4 minutes of the game. LU only allowed the Yellowjackets to score two points in the quarter. Lamar had runs of 18-0 and 20-0 in the quarter.

LU continued to add to its lead and after a three-point jumper by Bracy, the Cards led 46-6. Bracy’s three was the start of an 18-0 run in the second quarter that saw the Cards extend its lead to 54 points, 60-6. The Cards took a 53-point lead, 62-9, into halftime. In the first half, LU had four players score in double-figures and forced LeTourneau into 25 turnovers.

The Cards slowly continued to add to its lead in the third quarter. After a layup by the Yellowjackets, LU went on a run of 14-2 growing its lead to 63 points after a layup by Briana Laidler. Lamar continued to add to its lead and led by as many as 64 in the third quarter. After three quarters of play LU led 80-18.

LU did not let up and grew the lead to 71 with just under 5 minutes to go in the fourth quarter after a Bracy three. With 4:27 to go in the contest, LeTourneau hit a layup, which would be its final points of the game. LU scored the final eight points of the contest and defeated LeTourneau, 104-27.

The Cardinals return to action on Friday when they play at the Denver Thanksgiving Classic. LU opens with host Denver at 4 p.m.
