VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFFS: H-F swept in regional

In a meeting of teams that swept each of their playoff matches, Huffman gave Hamshire-Fannett the wrong end of the stick.

Hamshire-Fannett’s season ended Monday in the 4A Region III quarterfinals with a 25-16, 25-20, 25-12 loss at Barbers Hill High School in Mont Belvieu. The District 22-4A champion Longhorns finished the season 27-13.

Huffman (42-1), which went through 21-4A unbeaten, will play either Lorena or Midlothian Heritage on Friday at Bryan High School. Huffman’s only loss this season was to Port Neches-Groves, which reached the 5A area round.

Shawnee Craigen had 19 digs to go with five kills to lead the Longhorns. Chloe McLeod added four kills and 10 digs, Shelly Carroll four kills and seven digs, Zoey Arceneaux 10 assists and seven digs and Caroline Ogden 11 digs.

In the other 4A Region III semifinal, former 22-5A member Livingston will take on either China Spring or Robinson. Livingston, the third seed from 21-4A, beat 21-4A runner-up Tarkington in five sets.

At 7 tonight, Orangefield will face East Bernard in a 3A Region III quarterfinal at Lee College in Baytown.
