Luverda T. Batiste “Iodine”, 88 of Port Arthur, Texas answered the calling of the Lord on October 27, 2018 at The Medical Center, in Port Arthur, Texas. She was born in Winchester, Arkansas to Purtree Thomas and Carrie Lee Barnes Thomas. She retired from Texaco Refinery in Port Arthur, Texas. During her lifetime she was very active in several church auxiliaries at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and First Sixth Street Baptist Church.

Luverda was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years John C. Batiste. Left to cherish her memories their daughter Brenda Coleman, granddaughters Hope Green (Brian), and April Flugence (Milton), one great-grandson Brian McCullouch, and host of family and friends. Service will be Saturday, November 3, 2018 at First Sixth Street Baptist Church, Port Arthur, Texas viewing 9am until service time at 11:00am. Officiating Rev. Kalan Gardner, Sr. Eulogist Rev.
