NEDERLAND — It is homecoming week for the Bulldogs, and for the first time in what seems like weeks the weather should aide in the enjoyment of the festivities.

Due to ongoing construction on Nederland Avenue, the parade route has changed to avoid areas that might be dangerous.

The Parade will start in front of Central Middle School and travel along Boston Avenue to North 12th Street, turn north onto 12th Street, then to Detroit Avenue, and will end at the intersection of Detroit and N. 12th Street. The Parade is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Friday.

The night will close with the Nederland Bulldogs (5-0, 2-0 in 12-5A-II) taking on the Dayton Broncos (0-7, 0-3) at Bulldog Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Nederland High School homecoming dance will be in the NHS competition gym from 8-11 p.m. Saturday. Students must have their school IDs and sign in guests if they do not attend NHS. The entrance fee for students is $5 and $6 for guests. All guests must be under 21 years old.

Nederland Avenue update

The recent sunny weather is not just a bonus to homecoming festivities, the Nederland Avenue project has been able to cover some ground over — literally — this week.

“This project has followed Murphy’s Law,” City Manager Chris Duque said. “They did the chip seal. They have to do the next coat. That is supposed to start Thursday afternoon. Continuing Murphy’s Law, they had a part break on the equipment this morning. They had to go get another part.”

Duque said all of the recent conflicts have been minor and they have been able to resolve them in a timely manner.

“It’s moving along,” Duque said. “It’s amazing what a week of clear weather can do. They’re probably going to be working Saturday. They try to avoid Sundays unless they absolutely have to.”

Workers will begin to overlay Monday, weather permitting, Duque said.

“It should be done by the end of the week if the weather cooperates with us,” he said. “It’s moving fast.”

Starting next week, the intersection of 12th Street and Boston Avenue will be closed due to construction.
