Rev. George Whitley Davis, III, known as “Sonny,” left his earthly body of 73 years and put on his long white robe August 29, 2018.  He was born November 20, 1944 to Bessie Frances Paul Davis and George Davis, Jr. in Port Arthur, Texas.  He graduated Lincoln High School in 1962 and attended Prairie View A&M University.

A veteran of the Air Force and employed by the Post Office, he retired from Chevron Refinery as a process operator.  An ordained minister and licensed funeral director, he graduated from Commonwealth Funeral Institute and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Lamar University Beaumont.  Church memberships throughout his lifetime were at Rock Island, Zion Hill and Mt. Gilead.  He was last employed as a Foster Grandparent in PAISD at Dowling and Tyrrell Elementary.

He was greeted at the pearly gates by his parents, brother-in-law Van McDaniel and granddaughter Tatumn Dior Lott. 

Cherishing precious memories until their reunion in the sky are his children, Adrienne (Terence) Lott, George (Alanna) Davis, IV, and Eric (Maite) Bates; granddaughters Paige Whitley Davis and Taryn Dior Lott, and Baby Bates; Gail Davis; sisters Sandra McDaniel, Madelyn (Travis) Hunt, and Vivian (Jesse) Ballou; brother Harold (Mable) Davis; special aunts and uncle, Gloria Jackson, Jessie Paul, Bobbie (Charlie) Mitchell, and Warren (Heidi) Paul; godchildren Kristyn Cathey, Demetria Williams and Jesse Ballou III; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  His wishes were to have a private grave site service at Houston Memorial Cemetery with full military rites.
