Former Port Neches-Groves and Lamar soccer goaltender Lauren Lovejoy made a crucial stop in the Houston Aces’ national championship victory over the Inferno Rush on Sunday in the United Women’s Soccer league.

Lovejoy took the net to begin extra time and tipped over a long-range shot to keep the game scoreless. Julie Gavorski scored in the 118th minute to give Houston a 1-0 win.

It marks the second championship in less than a year for Lovejoy, who helped Lamar win the Southland Conference tournament in November.
