2 dead in airboat accident

Two people are dead after an airboat flipped in Taylor Bayou on Sunday.

Port Arthur Fire Battalion Chief Jay Fountain said there were three people in the airboat when the accident occurred around 4:27 p.m. Sunday. The airboat flipped near the bridge at Texas 73 and the victims drowned.

The driver, who as not identified, was the lone survivor.

Divers with the Port Arthur Fire Department were able to recover the bodies of the two victims Sunday evening and on Monday crews returned to recover the airboat.

Local TV media reported the names of the deceased as Sam Elmore and his son, Trevor Elmore.
