Dr. Patricia E. Patterson, M.D.

Dr. Patricia Ethel Patterson, formally of Washington, D.C. departed this life suddenly at her home in Port Arthur, Texas, on Saturday, July 29, 2017.  She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister, co-worker, church member and friend.

She was born in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Howard University. She continued her education by earning her Doctor of Medicine Degree from Howard University Medical School.  She moved to California to complete her residency in Pediatrics and met her husband.  They relocated Port Arthur, Texas, his hometown, where Patricia continued to practice medicine.  Over the years, she worked at Park Place Medical Center, Doctor’s Hospital, Mid-Jefferson Hospital, and was currently on staff at Christus St. Mary, and the Medical Center of Southeast Texas.  Her private practice included several locations in Port Arthur, and she volunteered for several years at the Port Arthur City Health Department Community Health Center.  At the time of her death, Dr. Patterson was employed at Gulf Coast Health Center as the Associate Medical Director and Physician.  She was licensed to practice in Washington, D.C., Georgia, California and Texas. She was a member of many professional organizations to include the American Medical Association, the Texas Pediatric Society, the Southeast Texas Medical Association, the Southeast Texas Pediatric Society, Howard University Alumni Association, the National Association for Female Executives, just to name a few. During her professional career, she has received numerous awards and recognition for her committed and dedicated service to her patients and the entire community.

Dr. Patterson was a very caring physician that gave the best possible care to all of her patients. She was very devoted to her family, patients, friends and “The Washington Redskins.”  She had a ready smile and an extremely contagious laugh that often caused anyone that heard it to laugh.  Dr. Patterson was a pillar in the pediatric community and she will be greatly missed.

Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Paul Washington Jr., parents Washington and Maudia Patterson, brother Washington Patterson III, and nephew Christopher Patterson. 

She is survived by her children Paul, Stacee, and Jeffery Washington, step-son Reginald Green; grandchildren, Deshawn, Jaylen, Josiah, and Jordan Washington, Regina and Reginald Green II; devoted sister Sydnee Patterson-Patterson (Lionel); brother Anthony Patterson (Toni); nieces, Dr. Ashley Patterson, Kellee Patterson, Sydnee M. Patterson, Erica Patterson, Melanie Burnett, Keena Williams, Sheila Connor and Wanda Rogers; nephews, Anthony Patterson II, Darrell and Ronald Washington; sister-in-laws, Madeline Washington, Myra Washington, Annette Davies and Gloria Blount; extended family Yolanda Gibson and sons; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 2701 West Parkway, Groves, TX.  Funeral services will be on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the same location under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.  The interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland, MD.
