Aaron Joseph Prater

Aaron Joseph Prater, 48, peacefully departed this world into eternal rest on December 14, 2016. He was affectionately known by his family and friends as “Joe” or “Jo-Jo”. He was a resident of Austin, TX. for many years until he returned to Port Arthur where his educational foundation and family values were formed.

Aaron was born on January 22, 1968 in Port Arthur, TX the second child of Ernest Prater, Jr. and Eula Boswell Prater. He was a proud 1986 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High where he had a stellar athletic career.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents; Ernest and Gladys Prater, David and Eula Worthy, and Hosea Boswell, Sr.; Uncles Joseph Prater and Lee Andrew Hill, and Aunt Deborah Prater-Clay.

He is survived by his loving parents Ernest “Potsy” and Eula “Theresa” Prater of Port Arthur, TX., children, Lachelle and Jayson Prater, Austin, TX.; Courtney Moody, Baumholder, Germany and Corey Moody, San Diego, CA.; siblings, Darrick and Penelope “Penny” Prater, Port Arthur, TX. and Deborah (Gary) Webster, Houston, TX.; niece Delanye Delaney and nephew Antrel Prater; aunts Bertha (Louis) Jackson, Brenda Young, Linda Prater, and cousin/aunt Alma Newman; uncle Hosea (Gladys) Boswell, and a host of devoted relatives and friends.  

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2016 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 549 W Gulfway Drive Port Arthur, TX. 77640 with viewing from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Sugar Land Mortuary.
